Volunteer Opportunity-- Get outside and get your hands in the dirt out at the Leslie Groves North Restoration Project! Join us to clear out some weeds to make room for native plants. We’ll be weeding mainly cereal rye, prickly lettuce, tumbleweeds, salsify, and mustard.
Upcoming Work Parties:
Saturday, May 30 – 8:30 AM
Sunday, May 31 – 8:30 AM
Saturday, June 6 – 9:00 AM
Sunday, June 7 – 8:30 AM
Sunday, June 14 – 9:00 AM
Saturday, June 27, 8:30 AM
Work parties usually last for two to three hours, but any amount of time is appreciated.
Where to meet: LGN is located at the north end of Leslie Groves Park, north of Snyder St. and east of Harris Ave., in Richland. We’ll meet along the bike path north of Snyder – look for gray garbage pails along the bike path and you’ll see people weeding in the field.
What to bring: If possible, bring a hand weeding tool (a dandelion puller works well), sturdy garden gloves, and drinking water. A bucket for collecting the weeds would also be useful (the City supplies garbage cans). The cheatgrass is getting nasty; long pants, sturdy shoes, gaiters, sunscreen, and hat are recommended; knee pads can be helpful.
Contact Debbie B. (secretary.lcbas@gmail.com) with any questions or to stay in the loop if anything changes.
The Leslie Groves North Naturalized area is an ongoing collaboration between CBWNPS, the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society, and the City of Richland. Together, volunteers have turned a weedy unused area into a native habitat full of sagebrush, bitterbrush and native flowers and grasses. This project has been underway since 2006!
