Along the bike path through the Leslie Groves North Natural Area, just north of Richland’s Snyder St. boat launch, you can see what a hard-working group of volunteers, in conjunction with our chapter and the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society, have accomplished. They’ve turned a weedy unused area into a native habitat full of sagebrush, bitterbrush and native flowers and grasses. This project has been underway since 2006!
If you can help, please contact the powerhouse behind this project, Debbie Berkowitz, at secretary@lcbas.org so she can let you know if anything changes.
Bring gloves, a hand weeding tool, and a bucket or pail. Long pants, long sleeves, sunscreen, and water are recommended. There’s plenty of room, so we can easily distance ourselves from each other; but please bring a mask along in case we need to get closer, e.g., for weed identification.
